Course Description

This is a plebe year course that emphasizes composition, with writing assignments and a research paper designed to help students practice their rhetorical skills and aspects of writing such as unity, organization and coherence, development, and precise, emphatic wording and usage. The course also emphasizes reading, discussion, and critical analysis of works of literature and/or essays and film, fostering the skills of close reading and critical thinking that are springboards to good writing. This is a required course.
